What is Spinal Adjustment?

A spinal adjustment is a technique used by a licensed practitioner to deliver controlled HVLA thrusts to the joints of your spine. During an adjustment, you will experience a rapid, yet gentle stretching of the spine. This may result in a loud “cracking” sound, but don’t be alarmed.

This is called cavitation, and that noise is caused by air being released from the fluid-filled sacs surrounding your joints.  You may experience better movement and flexibility immediately after a chiropractic adjustment, but you may also experience a bit of muscle soreness for the next day or so.

Is a Spinal Adjustment Right For You?

A chiropractic adjustment is a great, cost-effective, non-surgical option for treating back pain and other musculoskeletal conditions, but isn’t for everyone. Spinal manipulation may not be the ideal treatment for you if you have:

  • Cancer of the spine
  • Certain bone deformities
  • Numbness or tingling in the arm or leg
  • Osteoporosis
  • Increased risk of stroke
